Aloha! As you may know, I have dedicated my year of service to promoting my platform, Adversity Builds Character. This has allowed me to help raise funds and increase awareness for programs such as: Prevent Child Abuse, Girl Scouts, The Hawaiian Humane Society, Teachers Association, American Red Cross, Literacy Hawaii, Learning Disabilities, Alcohol & Drug Prevention, United Cerebral Palsy, as well as many others.

In addition to supporting these causes, I have chosen to focus the remainder of my reign as Miss Hawaii helping to increase the awareness of, and on finding a cure for Psoriasis. This hereditary, chronic, non-contagious skin disorder has long affected my family and more than seven million others in the United States alone. The effects range from mild plaque psoriasis to psoriatic arthritis, a severe and disabling disease. Although there are many topical treatments to minimize the physical discomforts of this affliction, major funding is still needed to find a cure.

A limited edition copy of my first recording, Candes: Miss Hawaii 1999 is now available.  First, this CD is a gift to all my close family and friends, without whom I would not have had the opportunity as Miss Hawaii to help a cause like the National Psoriasis Foundation. Secondly, this compilation of songs is the embodiment of my personal commitment to raise money to find a cure for Psoriasis. Through the investment of my personal resources in producing this disc, and my commitment to educate everyone I can about the effects of this skin disorder, I hope to give optimism to the people it affects.

Maybe you or someone you know is suffering from the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of Psoriasis. Won't you join me in my crusade to help find a cure by making a donation to the National Psoriasis Foundation? Your support will also go a long way to raising America's awareness about this ailment. For more information about psoriasis, visit the National Psoriasis Foundation web site at www.psoriasis.org.

Thank you for your love and unconditional support. I hope to present the donated funds to the National Psoriasis Foundation during the 2000 Miss Hawaii Scholarship Pageant on June 9, 2000. And I hope you will enjoy the music as much as I have enjoyed serving as your Miss Hawaii.

With all my love and affection,
Candes Meijide Gentry
